Product Groups

Product Groups

Product groups are arguably one of the most useful sections of the Push system. They can be used for quickly selecting a group of products that match a set of criteria that you control. Once you have your products selected you can do the following:
  1. Display them in an article or page body
  2. Create a custom category
  3. Create a postage rule just for these items
  4. Effect a voucher code promotion
As the PushRetail product evolves the Product Groups functionality will no doubt be utilised.

Getting Started

We'll step you through creating your first product group. Let's start by creating a product group that gives us all of the Specialized Helmets that are under £60.

Navigate to the "Product Groups" section in the PushRetail admin, as illustrated below. Pencil > Products > Product Groups.

Then simply select the "Create New Product Group" button.

You're then presented with a form. From here you can give your group a label. Make it descriptive enough so you can easily identify what should be contained within it.

Now comes the slightly tricky bit. In the Product Filter Rules area, you can see there is an "Add rule" button. When you click this it reveals a dropdown box where you can select a number of different options:

As our main objective is to create a group of Specialized Helmets that are under £60, we can go ahead and select "Brand" as we are only interested in "Specialized" products. Once you've made your selection, another two input boxes will appear. The next one is called the "operator" this allows you to choose how you want to find results:

As in this case, we want to choose products that match Specialized we choose the "contains" operator. We could also use "equal" if we are confident that the brand is exactly written as "Specialized".

"contains" will return all products that have "specialized" anywhere in it. So we could end up with it matching "Specialized", "Specialized Bicycle Components" or "Specialized Bikes" for example. As we're going to add more conditions let's stick to "contains".

In the last input box, you can just enter the text you want to match on, in this case, it's "Specialized".

The rest of the conditions can be created in the same way, as shown below:

Notice that by default the filter rules have the "AND" selected. This means that all of the conditions have to be met in order to show the results. If "OR" was to be selected, it would show results if any of the conditions were met.

When you're happy with your group rules you can preview the products found by clicking the "Preview 10 Sample Products" button.

How Product Groups Can Be Used

Embedding into articles and pages

To embed your product group results into an article, you can very quickly copy the "Tag" from the Product Group overview table, as shown below:

This group tag can now be pasted into the body of your article or page. Once saved this code will automatically show the live products from this category. This means your pages will ALWAYS have the latest matching products and prices displayed to your readers.

Creating a custom category

If you would like to be able to view all the products in your group as a filterable listing page you can create a "URL Slug" that will allow you to view the products on the front end of the website. For example. https://www.mywebsite.com/category/<url slug>/

The product group editor allows for a few additional settings to be applied around on-page SEO so you can create highly targeted product listing pages.
